Swedish Massage
Swedish massage therapy is the most well-known and widely practiced type of therapeutic massage and for good reason. This type of massage focuses on muscle relaxation, targeting superficial muscles (rather than the connective tissues targeted in deep-tissue massage), and increasing blood circulation.
Shiatzu Massage
Shiatsu is a form of massage that originated in Japan. Shiatsu can be found in traditional Chinese medicine and has been widely practiced worldwide since the 1970s. Shiatsu means "finger pressure," which describes the technique. In shiatsu therapy, pressure with thumbs, hands, elbows, knees, or feet is applied to the body's pressure points. This form of massage also focuses on rotating and stretching limbs, joints, and pressure points, or meridians, as they are called in traditional Chinese medicine.
Thai Massage
Thai massage is a traditional healing system, which has been in practice for the past 2,500 years. This massage technique is a combination of acupressure, Ayurvedic principles, and various yoga postures. Developed by Buddhist monks, the Thai massage has its roots linked to India. This massage is an excellent way to lower stress, boost energy, and to improve athletic performance.
Stone Massage
The stones used for this massage technique are smooth and flat and are commonly made from a volcanic rock called Basalt. These stones are used because they retain heat extremely well. The hot stones are placed onto the patient's body for the purpose of pain relief and relaxation. The hot stone therapy helps to remove tension, ease muscle stiffness, and to increase blood circulation throughout the patient's body.
Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient healing practice based on the principle that there are reflex points on the feet that correspond to the body's different organs and glands. Remember that the human foot is an evolutionary marvel, capable of handling hundreds of tons of force and your weight in motion. It has 42 muscles, 26 bones, 33 joints, 250,000 sweat glands, and at least 50 ligaments and tendons—plus almost 15,000 nerve endings!
Cupping
Cupping is a form of ancient Chinese treatment which was also used by the ancient Egyptians. Cupping stimulates the life force energy through meridians in the body. Cupping is also called Hijama.
